This is the first publication, outside of school, and the first major work by T.S. Eliot (1888-1965).  "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" was first published in Poetry Magazine in 1915 at the urging of Ezra Pound.  "Prufrock" has been called "the first masterpiece of 'modernism' in English; nothing like the first three lines of 'Prufrock' had previously appeared in English poetry." (Allen Tate)  The manuscript of Eliot's poetry collection initially was turned down by English publishers, but Harriet Shaw Weaver of The Egoist printed 500 copies, once again at Pound's insistence.

First edition of 500 copies.  Printed at the Complete Press, West Norwood, London.
