• Boards show some rubbing, edgewear.  Corners are scuffed. 
• Spines have tan labels and are a little darkened, with bumped and softened ends. 
• Bindings are secure. 
• Pastedowns and feps have some toning, a few pencil marks.  
• Frontispieces are present and have intact tissue guards.  
• Illustrations are bright and clear, with tissue guards.
• Interior is gently age-toned, with some illustration shadows, a creased corner on half-title (Vol. 1).  See photos. 
• Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.
• Text block edges have deckle fore and foot edges, gilt along head.

A handsome set, twelve volumes complete, of the writings and speeches of Edmund Burke (1729-1797).  The Irish statesman, economist and philosopher believed in underpinning virtues with manners in society and in the importance of religious institutions for the moral stability and good of the state.  He has often been hailed as the father of modern American conservatism.  

The Beaconsfield Edition, limited to 1000 numbered sets, this being number 852.  Published at Boston by Little, Brown.
