• Marble end papers/ pastedowns have some staining at margins, an owner's name pasted inside front cover.  Inside feps have moderate foxing.  See photos. 
• Frontispiece is a hand colored etching. 
• Illustrations in black and white are spread throughout the text.

• Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.

First edition copy, original in all its parts, of this popular account of European - Native American encounters.  The text block is clean and bright apart from scattered foxing, and the narrative is enhanced by the inclusion of many in-text illustrations. 

One of the many titles from the hand of John Frost (1800-1859), a school teacher who turned to writing, who is perhaps best known for his Pictorial Histories.  As in other books about the encounters and relations between European settlers and the Native Americans, Frost depended on "remarkable personal narratives," to give his account color and the air of authenticity.
