Hardback is overall in VERY GOOD condition.

  • Bright navy covers are mostly clean, with blind ruled border.  Boards show some smudges, a little edgewear.  Corners are sharp. 
  • Spine has gilt text and is bright with bumped, softened ends.  See photos.
  • Binding, cocked, is secure. 
  • Pastedowns and feps have some staining, gift inscription.
  • Interior exhibits scattered moderate foxing, heavy at pages 286-287.  See photos. 
  • Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.
  • Text block edges are foxed.

Very good first edition copy of this scarce work, a collection of stories by Henry Hering.  Signed by the author and inscribed to Mrs. Astley Roberts, who was the President and Chairman of the Eastbourne Ladies' Lifeboat Guild.  

Henry Augustus Hering (1864-1945) was an early fantasy writer, who first broke through with the Silas P. Cornu stories in Cassell's magazine in the 1890's, anticipating ideas later popularized by modern science ficiton. 

First published October, 1930, as per the copyright page.  Signed and inscribed by the author on free end paper.
