Hardback set is overall in VERY GOOD condition.

• Dark green covers are quarter leatherbound in dark brown. 
• Boards show some wear, smudges, edgewear.  Corners are bumped, scuffed.  See photos.  
• Spines have gilt text and show wear to the leather, with bumped and chipped ends.  See photos.  
• Bindings are strong.  
• End papers/ pastedowns show little sign of age or wear.
• Frontispiece in Volume 1, a portrait of Hamilton, is present and has intact tissue guard; a little foxing to margins.  See photos.
• Interior is gently age-toned.  Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.
• Text block edges have gilt along head, fore and foot edges are untrimmed, uneven edges show a smattering of foxing.

First Edition, limited to 500 copies.  Large octavo.  Nine volumes.  Publisher's green cloth with dark bown morocco at spine, gilt titles.  Gilt at head, untrimmed sheets.  Leather at spines shows some wear, particularly to the ends; boards are generally clean saving a few smudges.  Bindings are secure and supple, interiors are unmarked, gently age-tanned.  Condition is overall Very Good.  Very Scarce in commerce.

Henry Cabot Lodge (1850-1924) edited this comprehensive and respected collection of the public papers, correspondence, and The Federalist papers written by Alexander Hamilton (1757-1804).  It includes the full text of The Federalist, Hamilton's landmark financial proposals, and extensive correspondence.  The nine volume edition of 1885-1886 was followed by another edition in 1904, presented in twelve volumes.
