Hardback is overall in VERY GOOD condition.

• Leatherbound covers are mostly clean, with gilt text and ornament on spine. 
• Boards show some wear at shoulders, heavy edgewear.  Corners are bumped, frayed, with exposed board.  See photos.  
• Spine has gilt text and is scuffed with chipped ends.  See photos.  
• Binding, new in 1932, is firm. 
• Modern pastedowns/end papers show little to no sign of age or wear; front pastedown has owner names stamped in gilt.  See photos.
• Original feps have some moderate foxing, wear, owner's inscriptions.  
• Frontispiece, a portrait of John Bunyan, shows moderate foxing. 
• Illustrations, 8 plates, are present.  Some closed tears, chips to margins of plates, as at that facing p. 245.  See photos.  
• Interior is age toned throughout, exhibits marginal toning and smudges, scattered light foxing, some marks, signs of handling; closed tear at foot of title page repaired on reverse.  See photos. 
• Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.

Handsome late 18th century edition of The Pilgrim's Progress, best-selling Christian allegory by John Bunyan (1628-1688).  Two parts in one volume.  With a portrait of Bunyan, engraved titles, and illustrated plates.

Provenance:  stamped on the front pastedown "John Christopher Ernst's copy, Rebound for Richard P. Ernst 1932."  With inscriptions in ink on inner feps.
