SO HELP ME - George Jessel. Berns Kriendler 21 Club Signed 1/25 Collectible Rare

Product Description

So Help Me - [bound galley]

by George Jessel

George Jessel (1898-1981) was a performer and producer through more than half of the 20th century, from Vaudeville to movies. This was the first of three memoirs he published about his life. In the forward, William Saroyan writes: "Jessel is a great story-teller, not a great writer, but, occasionally, the energy and eagerness and loneliness of the man come through with a power that is both rare and touching." Unpaginated. 6.25 x 11.75 inches.

This was presumably JESSEL'S PERSONAL COPY of this autobiography.

Inscriptions with signings are dated March 3, 1954. Both Jerry Berns and Paul Kreindler were hosts/owners of the elite 21 Club at the time of these signatures. That the owners of a place catering to the wealthy and famous address him so warmly is indicative of his personal popularity at the time.

"This is one of 25 sets of specially bound advance galleys..." published by: Random House, New York. c. 1943 (Official First edition was issued May 1943)
