John Binns (1772-1860) was an Irish-born American journalist. A grand-nephew of the Irish patriot and politician John Binns, he got involved, together with his brother Benjamin, with the London Corresponding Society, that was closely associated with the Society of United Irishmen. His activities caused him to be imprisoned on several occasions, but he had considerable influence on the Democratic Party and from 1807 to 1829 conducted the Democratic Press, at the time the leading newspaper of the state, before publishing this autobiography at the end of his career.

Features a portrait engraving in frontis. Includes the author's own prefatory address. Also includes a table of contents.
