Very scarce inscribed and signed copy. Signed and inscribed to Melville E. Stone. Stone was the founder of the Chicago Daily News and a manager at the Associated Press. The front pastedown bears his personal bookplate. The author presents 14 stories with titles such as Martha Reid's Lovers, The Suicidal Tendencies of Mr. Ephrodtus Twilley and The Hotel Experience of Mr. Pink Fluker and more. B&W illustrations throughout.

Signed First Edition published by Harper & Brothers. New York, NY. 1888.

Hardback is overall in GOOD condition.

  • Yellow cloth boards featuring design are in good condition with bumping and scuffing to corners where the boards are partially exposed.
  • The spine head and tail are worn with cloth missing from outermost portion of spine head and tail with additional fraying.
  • The gilt lettering to the spine is darkened though still intact and legible.
  • The binding feels brittle as is evident by the motion of the hinges and the detached front matter.
  • As stated, the front hinge is cracked which has resulted in the front matter being detached.
  • As stated, the binding feels brittle as though it would crack if opened too wide. Otherwise, the binding is secure, tight in some areas.
  • All illustrations are intact.
  • Lower corner of page 223/224 is folded back and partially torn. Please see photos.
  • The front matter through page 8 shows wrinkling along the inner margins.
  • The interior is in excellent condition with highly legible type on clean leafs.
  • No writing, highlighting, underlining or other intentional marks.
  • Book may exhibit additional minor signs of age or wear.
