Hardback is overall in VERY GOOD condition, with a GOOD DJ under Mylar.

  • Spine is darkened and creased with chipped ends.  See photos.
  • Binding is secure.
  • Pastedowns and feps are toned, have a small closed tear at front fep lower corner.  Booklet with English translation sits in pocket at front pastedown.  See photos.
  • Illustrations are bright and clear, plates are tipped-in.
  • Interior is gently age-toned, exhibits some illustration shadows on facing pages, a tacky substance is evident at head edge on some pages, including pages 40-41.  See photos.
  • Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.
  • Text block edges have some remnants of foreign substance at head.
  • DJ is nicely preserved behind Mylar and is backed with archival paper.
  • DJ has some edgewear, chipped corners, bumping along foot edge, crackling at spine, long closed tear at head, 1" chip at front cover head, 1" x 3" chip at back cover.  See photos.

153 pages. 10.5 x 14 inches

A very good, complete copy of this English language edition of a double issue of Verve #27/#28, originally published in Paris in 1952.  The articles, printed in both French and English, engage in comparative art historical criticism, as in the case of Rembrandt, Hokousai, and Van Gogh.  Illustrated with a combination of full-page prints and tipped-in plates.

Under the boldly graphic dust jacket are covers designed by Georges Braque.

Edition limited to 1000 copies.  Typography and heliogravure by master printers Draeger Freres; lithography printed by Mourlot Freres.
