Richard "Dickie" Doyle (1824-1883) was a Victorian artist and illustrator of wide scope.  He drew the cover for the first issue of Punch magazine and designed the cover which would stand for a century.  He became known for his illustrations for fairy tales, and his masterpiece is indubitably In Fairy-Land, a series of Pictures from the Elf-World, with a poem by William Allingham, printed by Edmund Evans and published by Longman.  In the color plates Doyle was given a completely free hand. The folio was richly bound in green cloth, and has been described as one of the finest examples of Victorian book production (Richard Dalby, The Golden Age of Children's Book Illustration, 1991, per Wikipedia).

The curious page ordering aside (the work of a seemingly distracted binder), this copy is complete, all the plates are present, and with the exception of some foxing on numbers II and III, the illustrations are strikingly clear and bright.

Second edition.  Engraved and printed by Edmund Evans.
