A collaboration between Ruth Krauss (1901-1993), renowned author of children's literature, and Maurice Sendak (1928-2012), children's book author and illustrator.  The two had authored A Hole is to Dig (1952); with I Want to Paint My Bathroom Blue they visited the theme of a child's imagined, ideal world.

The illustrations are watercolor paintings by Sendak, rendered largely in a pastel palette.  Sendak's illustrations have a charming magic in their depiction of childhood and its joys.

This work a scarce Sendak book, particularly in the first edition.
