- Spine has gilt text dimmed and darkened with crushed, frayed ends, a library shelf number. See photos.
- Binding is secure, with exception of two loose sheets ahead of page 75.
- Pastedowns and feps have some stamps on rear fep.
- Frontispiece is present and has intact tissue guard, creased.
- Ex-library book, with "State Library of New Jersey" blind stamped on both covers.
- Illustrations are bright and clear, plates have tissue guards.
- Interior is gently age-toned. Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.
- Text block edges have gilt along head.

First, limited edition. Publisher's cobalt boards with gilt bust of Washington embossed on top board and gilt title to spine. A handsome edition, liberally illustrated with plates in both black and white and color, plus many facsimile images of pages from George Washington's correspondence. Interior is unmarked. Ex-library copy with blind stamping to both covers, shelf number at spine, and two loose pages where binding is cracked at page 75. AS IS Condition is overall VG-. Very Scarce in commerce in this, the original, edition.
