Hardback is overall in VERY GOOD condition.

  • Covers show moderate wear from some considerable rubbing of center on front and back, as well as some edge wear from rubbing.
  • Half leatherbound.
  • Covers have bright gilt lines.
  • Boards are mostly clean with some rubbing of edges. 
  • Corners are sharp and mildly rubbed, with some more pronounced rubbing of upper front corner.
  • Spine has lovely decorations and text in bright gilt.
  • Spine ends and shoulders display mild to moderate rubbing.
  • Binding is secure with some loosening between some pages and at signatures.
  • Beautiful marble pastedowns show mild signs of wear from fading and some darkening.
  • Missing plate 28.
  • Illustration plates are in nice condition with some toning and foxing, and are made with heavier stock paper. 
  • Illustrations on frontis and opposite page are surrounded with some considerable foxing, and display pronounced toning.
  • Some pages facing illustrations exhibit offset to illustration.
  • Interior is gently age-toned with some more pronounced foxing on some pages including illustration plates. (See photos)
  • Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.
  • Text block edges have bright gilt and show some light and the occasional scratch and some light dust.
  • Book may exhibit additional minor signs of age or wear.

Handsome example of fine 19th binding, including raised bands on spine with ornate gilt filigree, half leather with marble paper on boards and matching paper on pastedowns.
