First edition. Publisher's blue cloth with "Sic Semper Tyrannis" insignia in gilt to top board. All plates present as called for: a frontispiece, folding map, 36 plates containing 39 images. Boards show wear at edges and corners, spine is slant with crushed ends. Binding is sound. Interior is gently toned, with some marginalia in pencil. Condition is overall Good Plus, a working copy.
This is the classic work on Nat Turner's Rebellion, a revolt of slaves in Southampton County Virginia in 1831. The author, William Sidney Drewry (1870-1948), wrote this work as a Ph.D dissertation at Johns Hopkins University. With an index and list of persons interviewed by Drewry.
