Complete run of this avant-garde literary magazine. Founded in New Orleans, The Outsider was distinguished by its elaborate graphic design. Jon and Louise Webb's magazine drew poets and authors for both its high quality and its relatively broad reach. Unlike typical mimeographed magazines of the time, produced in quantities of 200 to 300, the Webb's Loujon press printed 3,100-copy editions. (MacCash, Times Picayune 8/29/2013).
Writers published in The Outsider included Charles Bukowski, Kenneth Patchen, Marvin Bell, William S. Burroughs, Cid Corman, Gregory Corso, Diane Di Prima, Ed Dorn, Russell Edson, Lawrnece Ferlinghetti, Jean Genet, Langston Hughes, LeRoi Jones, Jack Kerouac, Philip Lamantia, Clarence Major, Michael McClure, G. C. Oden, Charles Olson, Peter Olovsky, Joel Oppenheimer, Gary Snyder, Jonathan Williams, Diane Wakoski; plus art by Ray Johnson, Noel Rockmore, among others.
First and only printings, each in a small limitation. Printed by hand in New Orleans (#1-3) and Tucson (#4-5).
