  • Binding is strong.
  • Illustrated end papers/ pastedowns show little to no sign of age or wear.
  • Interior exhibits minimal signs of age and wear.  Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.
  • Text block edges have scattered foxing, are a little dusty.
  • DJ is nicely preserved behind Mylar and is backed with archival paper.
  • DJ has some smudges to front and back covers, bumping and edgewear at he ad and foot, chipped corners, closed tears at return folds.  See photos.
  • PS2024.0424

243 pages. 6 x 9 inches

A very good first edition copy, with original dust jacket, of this re-examination of a violent episode in the history of Mormon settlement in Utah.  The author, a member of the Mormon church, aims to shine the light of factual account on the Mountain Meadows Massacre (1857), understanding it as an example of war hysteria.

Support for research and writing was provided by a Rockefeller Foundation grant fellowship for the study of Southwestern history.
