Hardback is overall in VERY GOOD+ condition, with a VERY GOOD DJ.

  • Blue cloth covers are mostly clean, with blind stamped ornament.  Boards show a little edgewear.  Corners are sharp. 
  • Spine has gilt text and is bright with bumped ends.
  • Binding is secure. 
  • Pastedowns and feps have some staining. 
  • Interior is gently age-toned.  Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.
  • Text block edges have untrimmed fore and foot edges, have blue ink along head. 
  • DJ looks great behind Mylar and is backed with archival paper.
  • Close examination of DJ reveals light edgewear including possible bumps, rubbing, and/or tiny closed tears, darkening along spine, price sticker on back, price-clipped on front return.  See photos.

A very good copy, with dust jacket, of this first edition which brings together in one volume poetry by Wallace Stevens first published in 1936 and 1937.  

Wallace Stevens (1879-1955) is one of America’s most respected 20th century poets, a master stylist who employed an extraordinary vocabulary and rigorous precision in crafting his poems.  He was also acknowledged as an eminent abstractionist and a provocative thinker whose reputation has continued since his death.
