Charles Fletcher Lummis (1859-1928), a Massachusetts native, was a journalist who traveled west, settled in Los Angeles and then spent some years in New Mexico. He wrote about his experiences, became an advocate for the native peoples of the Southwest, and founded the Southwest Museum of the American Indian.
