Jessie Wilcox Smith (1863-1935) was one of "The Rose Girls" and one of the prominent (female) American illustrators of her day. "She is said by many to be the "greatest children's book illustrator" and has been compared to Mary Cassatt for her endearing portrayal of children."[Wikipedia]

• Plates and printing are clear and bright.
• Pictorial boards show some scuffing, more to back.
• Corners of covers are rubbed with exposed board.
• Overall moderate wear to perimeters.
• Spine ends are crushed with minimal staining.
• 2" closed tear on dedication/contents page.
• Creased 1/2" tear in gutter of pg 7/8.
• Page 7 has imperfectly erased pencil in text, and minor smudges in margin.
• Page 11/12 has a 1" gutter tear, with smudges in margin.
• Pages exhibit some light tanning and occasional smudges, and perhaps early signs of foxing.
• Book may exhibit additional minor signs of age or wear.
