A collection of eighteen poems by the English poet and dramatist John Drinkwater (1882-1937). The cover and illustrations are by Paul Nash (1889-1946), his first work in book form. The illustrations in all copies of the cartridge paper state were hand-colored by the typographer and printer Cyril Beaumont, according to the bibliographer Michael Pearce. This was done without consulting Nash, who was somewhat displeased.
This is the fifth book issued by the Beaumont Press, and the second printed by hand. The edition was limited to 200 copies: 30 copies on Japanese vellum, signed by the author and artist, numbered 1-30; 50 copies on cartridge paper, numbered 31 to 80; 120 copies on hand-made paper, numbered 81 to 200. This copy is Number 48. The typography and binding were arranged by Cyril William Beaumont. Hand printed on his press located at 75 Charing Cross Road in the City of Westminster. Printing was completed Christmas Eve, 1918. The Pressman was Charles Wright.
