Hardback is overall in GOOD condition.

• Red buckram covers have illustrated title panel laid on. 
• Boards show some wear, smudges, staining, scuffing, edgewear.  Corners are worn, frayed, with exposed board.  See photos.
• Binding, a leporello (folding accordion panorama) is fragile but intact.  Folds are tender. 
• Illustrated paper panels have linen backing; paper shows wear at edges and folds, with some illustration loss.  See photos.   
• Illustrations are bright and clear.  
• Interior exhibits some smudges, scattered foxing to linen backing, edgewear, chips and closed tears at panel folds.  See photos.  
• Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.

20 panels. 3 7/8 x 9 1/8 inches

First (only) edition.  Leporello (folding accordion panorama) of twenty panels, with an additional title panel on the front board.  Title panel is darkened and scuffed, especially at edges.  Contents largely good, with bright color, some creasing, chipping at folds.  Condition is overall Good.  Rare.

In Grandpapa's Garden is a picturebook by the German illustrator and cartoonist Lothar Meggendorfer (1847-1925).  Known for his pop-up books and paper engineering, Meggendorfer created many illustrated books in numerous formats.  The Meggendorfer leporellos are much less common than the movables, even though they hold up better.   

No date, but likely circa 1890, similar to other titles of the same format.
