The first history of the British military campaign culminating in the Battle of Waterloo to be based on eye witness accounts.  Captain William Siborne (1797-1849) was the constructor of the "Waterloo Model," a project which occupied him from 1830-1838.  In preparation for this undertaking, Siborne solicited information from living veterans of the campaign.  The contributions of these eye witnesses provided information for both the three-dimensional field model and the narrative accounts presented in this volume.

Siborne's History of the War in France was an instant hit in England, the first edition selling out immediately.  The second London edition was the basis for this, the first American edition.
