Historiæ et Allegoriæ (History & Allegory)

by Gottfried Eichler

published by Hans Georg Hertel

Hardback book is overall in FAIR condition.

  • Unwashed, untreated plates in original condition.
  • Despite removed plates and overall apparent rough treatment, text block is still sewn and attached to back board. Front board is broken from text block at gutter behind title page.
  • Quarter-bound in leather with gilt on spine. Leather is dry, chipped and cracking. Boards are stained and dirty, as expected from this vintage.
  • Cleaning will improve appearance of pages. Pages are moderately age-tanned, with foxing scattered throughout. Some pages have darker spotting, while a couple have apparent water stains. Range of page conditions is captured in photos. Toning color in person is a little off from photos.
  • Covers are worn around the edges with exposed board and frayed cloth.
  • Title page is present, but darker than rest.
  • Missing the following plates: 13, 28, 41-to-111, 114, 115, 121, 137, 141-to-160.
  • CR20141021

Rare book of engraved plates printed on one side, each having Latin and German captions. 7.25 x 9.5 inches.

The plates from this book sell for $30-$60 on BigCommerce. At this price they come to about $10 a plate.
