• Pastedowns and feps have some toning, owner's marks, a bookplate on pastedown. 
• Interior is gently age-toned, exhibits a small stain at upper corner, a couple of turned down corners.

Red cloth over thin boards, as issued, with black ink titles.  Privately published in Shanghai, China.  World War II era collection of recipes compiled by Lady Maze and Mrs. V.G. Bowden, whose husbands were part of the Australian diplomatic corps in Shanghai, for the benefit of British war funds.  One hundred and seventy-nine recipes were contributed by members of the international community in the city.  Boards show wear and some bowing.  Interior is gently tanned, free of marks.  Condition is overall Very Good-.  Scarce in commerce.

This collection of recipes, which extends from cocktails to desserts, offers a view into international cuisine in diplomatic circles in the 1930s.  It also offers a key to the players in those circles, because each contribution is attributed to its source, whether an Admiral Glassford, a Mrs. J.C. McCracken, or a Mme. J.M. Tavares.
