  • Contemporary half leatherbound with marbled boards. 
  • Boards show some scuffing, edgewear.  Corners are worn, with exposed board.  See photos.  
  • Spine has burgundy label with gilt text and is bright with bumped ends.
  • Binding is strong. 
  • Pastedowns and feps have some wear, bookseller note, owner's mark.  See photos.  
  • Frontispiece is present.
  • Foldout map is present, exhibits some light foxing.
  • Illustrations are bright and clear, plates have scattered foxing.  See photos.  
  • Interior is gently age-toned, exhibits scattered light foxing, some smudges, a closed tear with old repair on pg. 44, a crease to corner of fep facing half-title page.  
  • Inside pages have scattered marginalia as at pg. 76, ink marks on verso of title page.  See photos.

A complete, original copy, Very Good condition, of this epistolary travelogue of the Swiss and French Alps.  Amplified with poetry, engraved plates based on sketches by the author, and a fold-out map illustrating the route.  Half calf with marbled boards, binding is firm and paper is crisp.  Some light foxing.

The Rev. William Liddiard (1773-1841) was a clergyman and poet eduated at University College, Oxford and Trinity College, Dublin.  He is associated with the poet Lord Byron, and the present volume of travel writing, scarce in the original edition, has seen numerous modern reprintings.
