A Very Good volume, in custom binding, housing two First Editions -- Thoughts and Adventures (1932) and Painting as a Pastime (1948) by Winston Churchill. A little tenderness to the front hinge, toning of the text block and some light foxing to the first part. Color plates at the back of the volume are crisp and bright.
Thoughts and Adventures, published when Winston Churchill was 58 years old, consists of 23 essays, most of which had been previously published. They cover a wide range of topics, offering the reader a "Churchill sampler. You meet Churchill the historian, Churchill the politician, Churchill the storyteller. You begin to get a sense of the breadth of Churchill’s interests and thinking." (remarks by Gunnar Knapp to the International Churchill Society, 2000.) Painting as a Pastime was first published as part of Thoughts and Adventures, before appearing in volume form in 1948.
The book is housed in a handsome binding from Bayntun (Riviere) Bindery of Bath, England.
First editions, as per the copyright pages. Painting as a Pastime published by Odhams Press Limited and Ernest Benn Limited, both of London.
