The author is Percy Wagner (1885-1929), a geologist and mining engineer, who in his relatively short career produced three books, seven Geological Survey memoirs, and over 100 papers. He made particularly important contributions to the study of the tin, nickel and platinum deposits of the Bushveld Complex. This work culminated in the publication of his monumental work, The platinum deposits and mines of South Africa, offered here. In Wagner's own words, "The main object of the present book is to describe these remarkable Transvaal deposits and call attention to their enormous economic possibilities."
