• Binding is fragile, with one loose signature.  See photos.     
• Pastedowns and feps have some staining, a few marks in pencil, a bookplate on front pastedown.  Please see photographs.

• Frontispiece is present.  
• Illustrations are bright and clear.  
• Interior is gently age-toned.  Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks. 
• Text block edges have untrimmed fore and foot edges, publisher's black ink at head.

First Edition.  Publisher's black boards with gilt titles, black cloth spine.  In the original binding from Knopf, with the Borzoi stamp on the lower back cover.  Three illustrations reproduced from original drawings by the author.  Wear to the corners of the paper wrapped boards, and a loose signature.  Interior is unmarked, sepia-toned illustrations are clear.  Condition is overall Good Plus. 

The first book in English by Lebanese-American writer, poet, and artist Kahlil Gibran (1883-1931), published by Knopf, as would be his subsequent works.
