- Binding is strong.
- Pastedowns and feps have some light staining.
- Illustrations, black ink drawings and silhouettes in the text, are bright and clear.
- Interior is gently age-toned, exhibits some tiny corner turn-ups, a corner bend at pg. 150. See photos.
- Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.
- DJ is nicely preserved behind Mylar.
- Illustrated DJ has some edgewear, chipping at spine ends, corners, and foot; closed tears along head edge, bumping along foot edge, some sunning. See photos.

First American Edition, First printing (stated). Publisher's pale blue boards with silhouette illustration in black ink to top board and title in black at spine. Dust jacket, with $2.75 price intact, is gray-blue with illustration by Pauline Baynes, same as the London first edition. Binding is sound, boards generally clean with some exposure at periphery and a dent to the foot edge, some wear to the spine ends. Jacket has protective Mylar, with chipping at spine ends, corners and foot edge. Interior is unmarked. A Very Good copy of this First U.S. Printing of the final installment in the Chronicles of Narnia.
C.S. Lewis (1898-1963) wrote widely, both fiction and non-fiction, but he is best known and loved for his seven-volume children's fantasy series The Chronicles of Narnia. The illustrations are by Pauline Baynes (1922-2008), who illustrated all the Narnia books and also created cover and map art for some of J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings.
