Good copy of a rare early American Bible, Philadelphia imprint, bound in full contemporary calf. Boards show age and wear consonant with use. End papers very worn, interior has some edgewear and a few leaves creased or with closed tears. Text is clear; typeface is small in keeping with the volume's format.
This Bible is one of the early American editions produced in the years following independence. William Young of Philadelphia was the printer for the Old Testament (1794) and publisher for the New Testament (1808) bound in tandem.
The New Testament title page has on its verso a decorative frame with the text, "This Book is the Property of." Inscribed in ink "Mary Logan." Filling all the space on this page, and extending into the lower margin of the facing page, is a list of the children born to John Fulton and his wife Jane, their names and dates of birth.
Property of Mary Logan, as per the inscription on NT title page verso.
New Testament imprint: Whitehall: Printed for William Young, Philadelphia, 1808.
