- Rose pink and yellow covers have blind tooling, gilt stamping and inlaid title label.
- Boards show some smudges, staining, warping, edgewear. Corners are worn, with exposed board. See photos.
- Spine has sunned ends, chipped and frayed.
- Binding is secure.
- Patterned end papers/ pastedowns show little sign of age or wear.
- Frontispiece, "Princess Golden Flower," is present and has intact tissue guard. Water staining at foot edge, tissue guard is chipped. See photos.
- Ex-library book, stamped "Reed and Barton" on half-title page.
- Illustrations, fifteen chromolithographed plates, are bright and clear. Most plates have their tissue guards, some plates show water staining to lower edge. See photos.
- Interior exhibits a little marginal toning, some water damage to lower corner of introductory pages. See photos.
- Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.
- Text block edges have All Edges Gilt.
- DJ of paper backed rose pink cloth has inked title on front, black bands and title in red on spine. DJ has some edgewear, chipped corners, bumping along head and foot, staining and exposure, a library stamp, some writing. See photos.

Rose pink cloth and yellow india silk over beveled boards, with embossed and gilt-stamped illustrative design. Title label, gilt and white, is laid on. Dust jacket, as issued, is paper backed rose pink cloth with inked title. Eighteen poems with artistic borders and fifteen chromolithographs of chrysanthemum cultivars are printed one-side on heavy coated stock. Interior is Very Good, with some water staining to lower edge. Boards show some bowing, heavy edgewear to foot, staining, with condition Good. Jacket is stained and discolored, with wear at all edges.
A fin-de-siècle tribute in poetry and painting to the chrysanthemum. Verses by Edith M. Thomas, Richard Henry Stoddard, Alice Ward Bailey, Celia Thaxter, Kate Upson Clarke, Louis Carroll, Margaret Deland, Robert Browning, and Oliver Wendell Holmes. The poems have decorative borders by F. Schuyler Mathews. Full-page plates show reproductions of watercolor studies from nature of chrysanthemums by James and Sidney Callowhill, Alois Lunzer, and F. Schuyler Mathews.
