First published in 1922, The Cowboy is one of the earliest and most respected efforts to preserve the authentic culture, customs, and character of frontier cowboys. Drawing from firsthand observation and interviews, Rollins paints a vivid portrait of daily life on the open range.
Philip Ashton Rollins (1869-1950), Princeton University Class of 1889, first visited Wyoming at the age of five in the company of his father, a railroad man. Rollins's interest in the history and culture of the American West led him to amass a Library of Western Americana, comprising several thousand volumes, which he and his wife eventually gifted to Princeton University.
