A Very Good copy of this scant edition of 135 copies of this early work by Eugene Jolas.  Publisher's cream wraps with onionskin overlay and Mylar sleeve.  Secession in Astropolis collects several dreams, poems, and playlets exemplifying the theories underlying the mystical brand of modernism laid out by Jolas in works like Language of the Night and the Vertigralist Pamphlet.

Eugene Jolas (1894–1952) was a writer, editor, translator, and critic.  He co-founded the influential magazine transition in 1927, where he serialized James Joyce's Finnegans Wake and, with his wife Maria, published some of the earliest translations of Franz Kafka into English.

This volume is a fine example of the output of The Black Sun Press, founded by Harry and Caresse Crosby.  The press was distinguished by the high quality of its editions and typographic excellence.  The Black Sun Press printed early works of several writers before they were well known, including James Joyce, Archibald MacLeish, and D.H. Lawrence, and it evolved into one of the most important small presses in Paris in the 1920s.

First edition, printed Autumn 1929.  100 copies printed on Hollande Van Gelder Zonen, of which this is No. 79.

The First edition included ten signed copies printed on Japan Paper and 25 copies hors commerce.
