RECIT VENTE ET PARTAGE d'IRLAND 1696 Catholic Irish Confederate War History

Product Description

Recit Exact Et Fidele de la Vente Et Partage Du Royaume d'Irlande, Faits sous Charles II, par le Comte de Clarendon Chancellier D'Angleterre

by Nicholas French

English Title: Narrative of the Earl of Clarendon's settlement and sale of Ireland.

After the Irish Confederate Wars, also called the Eleven Years' War, the English government dealt harshly with Irish, executing anyone implicated in the rebellion, as well as confiscating land and shipping out thousands as indentured servants. All Catholic landowners, rebels or not, had their land confiscated, and they were barred from living in towns. This was done in the name of religion and to pay for the war. In this book, the appointed Bishop of Ferns gives an account of how the 1st Earl of Clarendon, Edward Hyde, handled these affairs. 133 pages. 4.75 x 7.5 inches.

Originally published in English, this is a rare French edition. Published by: (publisher unknown for this French translation). 1696.
