"Pennsylvania is believed to have had more railroads/railroad corporations than any other state about 2500." This encyclopedia and atlas has the aim of documenting this railway activity, county by county. Includes hand drawn maps of railway lines and black and white photographs of trains and engines.
The author is Thomas T. Taber III (1929-2022). An engineer, graduate of Stevens Institute of Technology, he worked for a number of corporations. His avocation was railroad history, and he was the author of numerous works of railroad history. He specialized in corporate railroad history and the logging railroads of the Northeastern U.S. His monumental 1987 Railroads of Pennsylvania Encyclopedia and Atlas detailed the corporate and operating history of literally every stretch of railroad line constructed in the commonwealth, as well as railroads chartered but never built.
