• Green marl buckram covers are mostly clean, with gilt text on red labels at spine. 
• Boards show some edgewear.  Corners are bumped. 
• Spines have gilt text on red label, with some dimming to gilt, with firm ends.
• Bindings are strong. 
• Pastedowns and feps show little sign of age or wear, have bookplates on front end paper. 
• Interior exhibits minimal signs of age and wear.  Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.
• Text block edges have publisher's ink to head Vols. 1-4, some shelf marks at foot.

Revised and Enlarged Edition.  Six Volumes including Index.  Volumes 1-3 are the Second printing of 1966; Volumes 4-6 are the Third printing of 1975.  Publisher's green marl buckram boards with gilt text on red spine labels.  A Very Good Plus set, with wear confined to some bumping of the corners.  Interiors are fresh and crisp, unmarked.  Owner's bookplate on the ffep of Vols. 1-5. 

Stith Thompson (1885–1976) was an American folklorist who spent his career at Indiana University.  He is the author of the Motif-Index of Folk-Literature, a six volume catalogue of motifs, granular elements of folklore.  Thompson's motif-index was published first in 1932–1936, and then revised and expanded from 1955–1958.  This catalogue has been extensively used in folklore studies.  It is commonly employed in tandem with the Aarne–Thompson–Uther Index (ATU), an index used for folktale type analysis.  Stith Thompson is the "Thompson" of the Aarne–Thompson–Uther Index.
