An Iceland Fisherman (Pêcheur d'Islande) is a classic 1886 novel by French author Pierre Loti (1850-1923), a French naval officer and novelist whose given name was Louis Marie-Julien Viaud.  Widely considered Loti's finest work, the novel is known for its poetic realism and tragic romance.  It is set in the harsh world of Breton fishermen who sail to Iceland for cod.

The illustrations are the work of Henri Barthélemy (1884-1977), a French painter and illustrator.  Barthélemy illustrated a number of works in the series published by A. and G. Mornay.

This volume is part of a celebrated French fine-press series published by Éditions A. & G. Mornay (1920s-1940s), named Les Beaux Livres.  Le Pêcheur d'Islande is No. 35 in the series.  As per the colophon, the edition was limited to 1000 copies made for sale, issued on a variety of different papers.  Sixty-eight copies were made on Japon Impériale paper, numbered #4-#71.  Our copy is #52 of this production.
