The astonishingly beautiful scientific drawings in Art Forms in Nature (Kunstformen der Natur) take you to another planet, one where strange and delicate creations grow naturally; Haeckel drew them and carefully laid them out, arranged so that every aspect of them can be seen and admired.  Haekel's illustrations would go on to influence the Art Nouveau movement.

Ernst Heinrich Haeckel (1834-1919) was renowned as one of the foremost early exponents of Darwinism.  His work was credited with having caused the acceptance of Darwinism in Europe, and his popular studies preaching the continuity of all life, organic and inorganic, from prehistoric time to the present converted tens of thousands of readers all over the world.

Full page illustrations, some on light grounds and others on dark grounds, many with tissue overlays.

An interesting book plate inside the front cover, from the collection of Marie Siemens.  Possibly part of the Siemens family of industrialists prominent in Germany and Russia in the early 20th century.
