11.5 x 16.5 inches
Pictorial folded newspaper-like magazine, quarter-folded, as originally released. Four of the first five issues published starting late in 1969. Andy Warhol's influential pop-culture magazine Interview began as Inter/View magazine, with early issues being film-focused. Printed in black and white, or in green and white, on newsprint, and styled as a tabloid on 16 1/2" x 23" inch sheets, quarter-folded. Rather fragile due to the nature of their production. Folds are not all square, page edges are age toned, softened and worn. Paper at the creases is delicate, with possible closed tears. Condition is overall Very Good.
These first issues offer a striking panorama of the cinematographic avant-garde, including Elia Kazan, Jane Fonda, Sam Shepart, Visconti ("The Damned"), Raquel Welch, among many others. The rare inaugural issue (Number One, styled by Warhol as a "Collector's Edition") features interviews with George Cukor, Mark Freschette and Daria Halprin, Agnes Varda, and perhaps the most compelling review of 1969's Easy Rider ever written. With a neat layout and many black and white photographs, Interview was an essential publication and the perfect representative of the Warholian spirit and the Factory.
