In Search of White Crows is a work of cultural history that investigates 19th-century Spiritualism and 20th-century psychical research/parapsychology in the United States.  The author, R. Laurence Moore (b. 1940), is professor emeritus of history and American studies at Cornell University.  Moore argues that spiritualists and psychical researchers were trying to solve the specific problem of how to balance religious beliefs with a growing scientific worldview.
