Jonathan Harrington Green (1813–1887) wrote a quite a bit as "The Reformed Gambler." In his younger years he was notorious as one of the most skilled card players in the US. For unspecified reasons he changed his ways, and became active in the crusade against gambling. After all the notoriety, it is curious to note that he was destitute in his later years.
