Hardback is overall in VERY GOOD+ condition, with a VERY GOOD DJ under Mylar.
- Pale gray covers have red cloth at spine, with gilt facsimile signature to top board.
- Boards show a little exposure at edges, some edgewear. Corners are sharp. See photos.
- Spine has gilt text and is bright with softened ends.
- Binding is strong.
- End papers/ pastedowns show little to no sign of age or wear.
- Interior exhibits minimal signs of age and wear. Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.
- Text block edges have untrimmed fore and foot edges.
- DJ looks great behind Mylar and is backed with archival paper.
- DJ has some edgewear, chipped corners, bumping and small closed tears along head edge, bumping along foot edge, some scraping along spine shoulder. See photos.

First Edition. Publisher's half red cloth with pale gray boards, author's signature stamped in gilt. Under the original, unclipped dust jacket, now behind archival Mylar. A little exposure to the edges of the boards, but in all a Very Good Plus copy, no marks whatsoever, square binding, and bright text block.
The author, Gerald Walker (1928-2004), was an articles editor for the New York Times Magazine. Cruising was the only novel he wrote.
