- Pastedowns and feps have a bookseller sticker, owner's marks.
- Interior is gently age-toned. Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.
- Text block edges have untrimmed fore and foot edges.
- Illustrated DJ is nicely preserved behind Mylar and is backed with archival paper.
- DJ has some edgewear, chipped corners, closed tears and chipping along head edge, bumping along foot edge, rubbing, staining, writing. See photos.

Ernest Poole (1880-1950) was an American journalist, novelist, and playwright. Winner in 1918 of the first Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, Poole is best remembered for his sympathetic first-hand reportage of revolutionary Russia during and immediately after the Revolutions of 1905 and 1917 and as a popular writer of proletarian-tinged fiction during the era of World War I and the 1920s. Jacket illustration by Charles K. Stevens (1877-1934). A student at the Chase Art School and the Art Students League, Stevens was known for his brilliantly colored book jackets, which number more than one thousand.
