Hardback is overall in VERY GOOD condition.
- Leatherbound covers are mostly clean, with gilt ornament and black title label at spine. Corners are firm. See photos.
- Spine has gilt text on black label, a little dimmed, with firm ends. See photos.
- Rebound in antiqued leather.
- New end papers/ pastedowns show little to no sign of age or wear, orignal end sheets show some staining, light foxing.
- Bookplate at front pastedown.
- Ex-library book, with two ink stamps on title page, interior margins.
- Interior is gently age-toned, exhibits some light foxing, some smudges, a library stamp at pg. 99. See photos.
- Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.
- Text block edges are foxed.

First English edition. Fully restored and rebound in leather with gilt ornament to the spine with the original black title label laid on. Owner's bookplate at front pastedown. Ex-library with two ink stamps at the title page, plus one further at pg. 99. Otherwise unmarked. Interior is gently tanned, with light foxing. Condition is overall Very Good.
Charles Bossut (1730-1814) was a French mathematician, cleric, and popular textbook writer at the turn of the 19th century. His fundamental history of mathematics was translated into English and published in London in 1803; following the text is a two-page chronological table of "the most eminent mathematicians." The English editions and sources often mis-identify him as John Bossut.
