First, original edition.  In Italian.  Publisher's pale gray buckram boards with title in red and black at spine.  With the original dust jacket, pale green paper with duotone photo illustration, now under archival Mylar.  Boards show some wear and staining at edges.  Interior generally very good, with a sprinkle of foxing to end papers, a couple of smudges.  Condition is overall Very Good under a Good jacket for this first issue classic of neo-realist photo reportage.

Italian screenwriter Cesare Zavattini (1902-1989) joined renowned photographer Paul Strand (1890-1976) to capture in word and photo the daily rhythms and spirit of Luzzara, Reggio Emilia, in the immediate post-War period.  This is the only volume published of what was planned by Zavattini to be a series documenting the everyday lives and faces of ordinary Italians across different regions, edited by various artists of the neo-realist school.  The combination of Strand's photographs and the first person accounts of Luzzara's residents is a powerful work of social history.

Original edition.  Rotogravure printing executed by the Amilcare Pizzi firm, Milan.  Printing by the Stamperia Artistica Nazionale, Torino.  Completed April 2, 1955.
