Six issues.  Bryn Mawr, PA:  The Artsman, 1982-1983 

Softback is overall in VERY GOOD+ condition, boxed.

  • Colored wraps are mostly clean, with text and illustration in two colors. 
  • Wraps show some edgewear.  Corners are a little softened, with some bumping.  See photos.  
  • Spines have inked titles and show a little exposure, with some bumping to ends.  See photos.
  • Bindings are secure. 
  • End papers show little to no sign of age or wear.
  • Illustrations are bright and clear, with some plates tipped-in, some bound in, some with folding panels, some contained in pockets. 
  • Interior exhibits light edgewear, some bumping at upper corner, pocket facing pg. 24, Issue 2, is unglued.  See photos.  
  • Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks. 
  • Text block edges have deckle fore and foot edges. 
  • Purpose-built box has cloth boards, gilt title at spine, velcro closure.

Volume I, Issues 1-6 of Tiller magazine.  Supported by subscription, 1000 copies circulated.  Published bi-monthly starting in September 1982.  Each issue contains all of the original tipped-in images and inserts, and each issue is in VERY GOOD or better condition.  Very scarce in commerce.  

Tiller was an early Arts & Crafts Renaissance publication by one the the preeminent scholars of the day, Robert Edwards.  Each issue contains scholarly articles on various aspects of the Arts and Crafts Movement, and the quality of the scholarship and the production of the magazine are outstanding.   

Printed on Hahnemuhle Ingres-Buttenpapier by Henry Morris at his Bird & Bull Press in Newtown, Pennsylvania.
