Henry Hazlitt (1894-1993) was an American journalist, philosopher, and economist.  He wrote for numerous New York City newspapers and is credited with popularizing Austrian economics among English readers.  Thinking as a Science is Hazlitt's first book, written in his early twenties.  In this volume, Hazlitt challenges the idea that sound creative thought is a result of reading.  Hazlitt argues the opposite, saying that if the object is to enhance one's own thinking, one should read less.  Read less and focus on the practice of thinking as a science, thereby articulating one's thoughts.
