Hardback is overall in VERY GOOD condition, with a GOOD DJ behind Mylar.

• Orange cloth covers are mostly clean, with brown ink title at spine. 
• Boards show some edgewear.  Corners are sharp, scuffed.  See photos. 
• Spine has brown text and is bright with crushed ends.
• Binding is strong.  
• Pastedowns and feps have signature and inscription, an owner's stamp.  See photos.  
• Interior is gently age-toned.  Inside pages are free of writing and intentional marks.
• Text block edges have untrimmed fore and foot edges.  
• DJ looks nice behind Mylar.  
• Close examination of DJ reveals light edgewear, chipped corners, tiny closed tears, some soiling to back cover.  See photos.

First Edition.  Publisher's orange boards with title in brown.  Original dust jacket, uncut, preserved beneath Mylar.  Inscribed "for Colin with affection, Lillian, Aug 1951" on front end paper.  A little shelf wear to boards, bumping of untrimmed foot edges of the text block, but overall a Very Good indeed copy, with square binding and unmarked interior.

Written by the American author Lillian Hellman (1905-1984), The Autumn Garden is a study of the defeats and disappointments of a group of people in middle age.  The play was a favorite of Hellman's, written together with Dashiell Hammett, to whom she dedicated it.

Stamped "Phyllis Kirk" on the end paper beneath the author inscription.
