Jan Luckens, originator of the Lukens name in America and one of the founders of Germantown, Pennsylvania, emigrated to the United States in 1683 from the town of Krefeld in the Rhineland. Like many emigrants of the time, Luckens was seeking freedom of worship, and he was drawn to Pennsylvania by the freedom of religious expression promised by William Penn.
Compiled by a descendant of Jan Luckens who expanded on the extensive research done by Herman Tyson Lukens.
